Imagine being in a room with 27 individuals, each one like a snowflake, quite similar, however, not close to being identical. Now, imagine those 27 unique individuals in a room and the one thing that connects them, is the desire to create. Walking into Propel every morning, to this day, still feels like a dream. Can someone pinch me already!?
Three weeks ago, I was surrounded by strangers. Now, that’s not the case. It’s as if we’ve known each other for years. The funny thing is, I have no clue when we would have bonded. The first few weeks consisted of two things, sitting and listening, that’s it. An enormous amount of information was delivered to us. It felt like a pie packed with information was smashed into my face and left on repeat. But I loved it in a way I can’t explain.
My mind was blown away, I almost ran out of the room from excitement. I watched a student have a conversation with a teacher, I had noticed, there were illustrations on the notes. I remember thinking to myself, “OH BOY”. “I now need to re-write all my notes, there are sketches everywhere!” “I don’t want the teachers to lecture me about being organized, AGAIN.” My thought was interrupted with a loud “sick sketches” coming from the teacher. I always believed I shouldn’t sketch on my notes, especially during class. It was a relief, because I’ve noticed that I can’t help but create. What we are learning tends to spark my compulsion to create, at least that’s what I believe. All I know is, I never want that to stop.
By flipping through my notebook, you will recognize I am an artist. You will find notes I’ve accumulated, and countless sketches from occupying myself during lessons. Most importantly, you will observe my thinking, which as I call it, my thought vomit. I am putting my thoughts and understanding of information on paper. It can be a little scary, but that’s the fun part, it’s so much to take in, you don’t know what to do with it. It’s that pie in the face feeling.
Overall, my thoughts on the first three weeks are still developing. They went by so fast and positive. I couldn’t stop thinking “now what?” and I still haven’t stopped. Maybe my future blogs will have more about my thoughts, but right now, I am living in the moment and loving it. I only know what is to come.
Next is proof of concept, this allows me to demonstrate to the teachers that I can achieve my big picture idea. I now need go out and do what I do best, shoot, shoot, shoot. I need to also schedule photo shoots and keep tight to-do lists. If I do so, I’ll be able to keep moving forward.
Soon, I’ll share a little sneak peek of what I have been working on.
Can’t wait to see what’s to come!
